Reporting and Assessment

Student learning is based on the individual’s point of need, providing each child with support or extension to meet learning objectives. Point of need is determined through ongoing assessment across all subjects that informs teachers of learning progress.

Formal system-based and in person assessments provide key analysis that support the formulation of learning and teaching. The objective of ongoing assessments are to:

  • underpin and improve student learning

  • establish student knowledge, learning progress and future learning goals

  • provide analysis to determine where additional support or extension is required

  • provide concise, digestible communication with parents about their child’s learning and development

Learning objectives and outcomes are communicated to our community through:

  • Formal individual reporting twice a year

  • Three-way parent, teacher and student learning conversations twice a year

  • Naplan results distributed to parents

  • Annual Report published on the website

  • Data provided to the Catholic Education Office regularly about student achievement

Individual Reporting

Student reports are based on the standardised Victorian format and provide a snapshot of your child’s learning across all subjects. Any areas of exception are raised in the commentary of the report and reviewed with you personally.

Learning Conversations

Learning conversations occur at the end of Terms 2 and 4, after reports have been distributed. They are an opportunity for you and your child to meet with your child’s teacher and review progress, discuss any areas that need clarification, raise any concerns, and share learning and development milestones. They are informal however any actions that require follow-up are formalised to ensure they are tracked and implemented.
