Student Representative Council

At St Margaret Mary’s, student voice matters – we listen, we act and we empower our students to shape a positive school community.

At St Margaret Mary’s, we believe students thrive when they feel safe, supported and heard. Our Student Representative Council (SRC) gives students a meaningful voice in school life and plays an important role in shaping a positive, respectful learning environment.

The SRC supports our School Improvement Plan goal of ensuring all students have regular opportunities to share their views on safety and wellbeing and to take part in decisions that affect them. Through this work, we aim to strengthen student wellbeing, improve relationships and promote positive behaviour across the school.

Each class has two SRC representatives per semester, with students represented from Foundation to Year 6. SRC meetings are held once each term and are supported by a staff member who helps guide discussion while encouraging student leadership. Representatives gather ideas from their classmates and share them respectfully, helping ensure the SRC reflects a wide range of student voices.

A key focus of the SRC is to build student’s self esteem, confidence, social and oral language skills. Students discuss playground safety, positive behaviour and what helps them feel safe and supported by peers and teachers. SRC members work alongside staff to suggest solutions, promote kindness and respect and collaboration.
