Welcome to St Margaret Mary’s Primary School.
We are a vibrant learning community with a strong Catholic identity and a collective vision for your child. Our school is committed to developing the whole child, providing academic, social, emotional, and spiritual nourishment for every student.
As the Principal, I am honoured to work alongside our talented staff, students, and community members to realise this vision.
St Margaret Mary’s Spotswood has 161 students across seven classrooms for the 2026 school year. This environment allows us to provide personalised attention and care while offering the perfect setting for children to build lifelong friendships.
Learning at SMM is guided by our Flourishing Learners approach, placing student wellbeing, engagement and growth at the centre of teaching and learning. Low student-to-teacher ratios are supported through Masters of Education–trained Learning Enhancement Teachers (LETs), who work alongside classroom teachers to provide timely support and extension. Teaching is evidence-informed and grounded in High Impact Teaching Strategies, daily explicit instruction and a clearly articulated behaviour curriculum that promotes calm, predictable and supportive learning environments. Students’ learning is further enriched through inquiry and innovation, alongside specialist programs in Music, Visual Arts, Science, Physical Education and AUSLAN.
Our teaching and learning philosophies nurture your child’s natural curiosity, helping them discover their love of learning. Whether it’s through extra support or enrichment opportunities, we develop each child and assist them to reach their full potential.
Our school prioritises Numeracy, Literacy, Religious Education, Social and Emotional Learning and Digital Technology skills. We have specialist teachers in Physical Education, STEM, Art, Music and AUSLAN, as well as a longstanding relationship with the nearby Scienceworks Museum.
Under the guidance of our Parish Priest, Fr. Samuel Kapani, our learning community also seeks to meet the spiritual needs of children.
St Margaret Mary was devoted to spreading the love of God in thought, word, and deed. Following in these footsteps, we challenge our students to think beyond themselves and act with Respect, Compassion, Integrity and Excellence in their daily lives. These school values are embedded in all we do at SMM. Our faith in Jesus and the Gospel values provide a safe and inclusive environment for all children, of all faiths, to grow and thrive.
Community is the lifeblood of our school. We value the participation of parents and families because we know how enriching this sense of community can be – not just for students but for everyone involved in school life.
